Sleeping Kid

What is the most effective way of getting those extra couple seconds of sleep packed into a day? You can avoid the whole “getting ready for bed” and “getting out of bed” processes by simply wearing what you sleep in. No, I’m not talking about the clothes you sleep in. I’m talking about literally what you sleep in…or on.

Is the iPhone Worth It?

iphone 3g

The Apple iPhone has been out for over a month now, but it still seems as though every week there is some news article updating consumers of the benefits or disadvantages of owning another Steve Jobs tech toy. Is the iPhone 3G worth the hassle?

A barrage of customer complaints on the latest Apple gadget have included dropped calls, slow or no connections and crashing servers. There have already been several software updates on this latest iPhone, as the device has had several bugs. The last 2.0.2 update fixed some, while it did nothing for others and even broke a few.

Grandma’s New Gadget

Gadgets & Gismos, Trend Stopper No Comments

USB ShawlAt last, someone has finally thought of grandma when designing computer comfort accessories. No longer will she shake in the frigid cold while either hitting up her MySpace account or buying vinyls on EBay.

Yet another line has been crossed when it comes to ridiculous gadgets. USB plugs have been converted to electrical outlets for powering coffee warmers, slippers, gloves and even kneepads. Now this… I wanna know who gave the go-ahead on the USB shawl.

We may soon have to upgrade to 56-port usb hubs to accommodate all these wonderful little inventions. I mean, when you’re reaching for your memory stick at work and realize your shawl and leg warmers are taking up all your ports, is it really worth it to suffer the cold for those few minutes?

I guess what really upsets me is that this shawl isn’t Bluetooth compatible. Maybe we have that to look forward to in the 2.0 version…

Roundup of Political Blogs of 2008 Election

vote here

Our generation is not exactly all that politically active. Sure, we have protests, but we must admit that we are all a bit more apathetic than we should be. We care more about our celebrities than our politicians, who are turning into celebrities. At any rate, now is the time to take action! Get involved! Get political! With the Democratic and Republican National Conventions coming up soon, it’s a good idea to become acclimated on how these candidates differ in their policies on…EVERYTHING.

Here’s a quick roundup of some informative, witty and laugh-out-loud funny sites on the web, along with a video featuring a certain celeb’s endorsement for…well, you’ll see.

CNN is a reputable news resource and has been tracking every move of the presidential candidates in its Political Ticker. The Washington Post is another reliable news source, especially for its political coverage. Of course, for those who want the news and some newsworthy jokes, both The Daily Show and The Colbert Reporthave been doing their damndest to make fun of this election.

Wonkette tends to point out the asinine within the political world, while President 2008 covers anything and everything going on with the election. Thingsyoungerthanjohnmcain.com. John McCain is old, but this blog points out just HOW old. And Obamamessiah.com pokes fun at the media’s obsession over the presumptive Democratic nominee.

And here’s this young lady endorsing herself:

Free Rice Helps End World Hunger With Vocabulary Quizzing

free rice

So, you may be sick of learning right now. You may just want to kill those valuable brain cells with more Coors Light. Indeed, when I walked past the McGraw-Hill building in New York (the publisher of many a heavy, overpriced textbook), I wanted to gather an angry mob, some heavy stones and a catapult.

However, as we all know from School House Rock, it IS great to learn. It’s even greater to do a good deed. Put the two together, and you’re practically a saint.

FreeRice.com offers visitors a chance to brush up on their vocabulary skills, all while helping world hunger. How does this work? Sponsors advertise on the site, and pay for the rice you earn when you answer each question correctly.

How to Manage Your Blog Addiction

Online Obsessions, Tech No Comments

At this day in age, there is literally a blog covering every topic and appealing to every audience. No matter how old you are or what you are interested in, there is bound to be someone who shares your hobbies that is blogging away on the internet. Most of us online addicts have our regular two to four blogs that we read daily. For me it’s the Uncrate, Engadget, etc. type of blogs. For my roommates, it’s PerezHilton and such. To each his own, eh?

The truth is though, it can be a slight annoyance jumping around from site to site every day just to read the latest or our favorite blogs. Wouldn’t it be nice to just have a simple dashboard on our computer which features all our blog favs and a glimpse of the newest content on them?

Glowing Power Cable - Support a Bright Future

Power-Aware Chord

Now here’s something that not only looks cool, but is doing something good for the environment–definitely a product of our generation.

This Power-Aware cable measures the amount of energy being used by the intensity of the glowing. The idea behind the glow-in-the-dark power cable is that if we can actually see how much energy we’re consuming, maybe we’d opt to be a little more conscious when choosing to leave our devices on all night.

Hmm putting our wasteful habits out there in the open where it is hard to ignore instead of hiding it behind a couch…interesting thought…
