Grandma’s New Gadget

Gadgets & Gismos, Trend Stopper No Comments

USB ShawlAt last, someone has finally thought of grandma when designing computer comfort accessories. No longer will she shake in the frigid cold while either hitting up her MySpace account or buying vinyls on EBay.

Yet another line has been crossed when it comes to ridiculous gadgets. USB plugs have been converted to electrical outlets for powering coffee warmers, slippers, gloves and even kneepads. Now this… I wanna know who gave the go-ahead on the USB shawl.

We may soon have to upgrade to 56-port usb hubs to accommodate all these wonderful little inventions. I mean, when you’re reaching for your memory stick at work and realize your shawl and leg warmers are taking up all your ports, is it really worth it to suffer the cold for those few minutes?

I guess what really upsets me is that this shawl isn’t Bluetooth compatible. Maybe we have that to look forward to in the 2.0 version…

How NOT to Wear UGGs

Feature, Style, Trend Stopper No Comments

With the Winter season approaching and the more UGGs I see out and about, I would like to hold a brief seminar on the appropriate and inappropriate ways to wear your UGG boots in public. In the privacy of your own home–when all doors and windows are shut–then by all means, be as f-UGG-ly as you wish. While in the presence of another human or anything with a pulse however, please be courteous and abide by the following stylistic recommendations:

Lindsay Lohan in Uggs1. No Gray and No Ballet.
PLEASE stick to the original UGG colors… sand, chocolate, chestnut, and black. This does NOT include carpet gray, sorry Lindsay. Also, please don’t wear them coming out of your ballet class. And if you do, remember to keep your tutu on. There is just too much white trash…err, I mean white…in this picture.

Baywatch Uggs2. Not at the Beach
Come on now, this just looks silly…

3. Not with Shorts or Short Skirts of Any Kind…

Skirt with UggsShorts with UGGs

I know a lot of people may argue this, but come on now.. really? If you are cold enough to wear boots lined with fur, why on earth are you wearing short shorts or a short skirt anyway?

Put on some pants.. stop confusing your homeostasis..

Furry Uggs

4. If Low UGGs.. Do Not Wear Over Jeans. No Fo-Fur.
The short Uggs really shouldn’t be worn over jeans. It appears as though you are trying to cover up kankles. Please refrain. Also, I don’t even know where these fo-fur Uggs were spawned from, but I wish they would return to their planet.

These are just a few examples of how NOT to wear your UGG boots this Winter. If you would like to see an inspirational example of a tasteful and adorable display of Uggs… check out Kate Moss’s daughter Lila… now this little fashionista has got it down! The Truth About Pinkberry

Trend Stopper, Wine & Dine No Comments

PinkberryI’ll be the first to admit, that when Pinkberry made its first appearance in Westwood, Los Angeles, I was all about it. Never fully obsessed, but I definitely waited in line and paid $7 once or twice for this new phenomenon. Why? I’m not quite sure. I guess I heard somewhere that it was good for you. Plus the taste kinda grew on me (the sourness goes away after awhile).

After awhile however, I started to hear the rumors that were circulating around about the Pinkberry controversy. Was it really frozen yogurt? What was in that white powder that it’s made with? Does it even pass the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s definition of frozen yogurt?

So here’s the truth: Pinkberry ranted and raved about how good their yogurt was and constantly marketed its health benefits. Well, this is a blatant case of false advertising. As it turns out, Pinkberry was sued for making false claims of being frozen yogurt, when in fact it is merely powdered milk, chemicals, flavoring agents and sugar.

So apparently all you need to do these days to be successful is sprinkle in a ‘low cal, low carb’ every now and then and people will be lined up around the block.

Baskin Robbins Rainbow SherbertIf you really want a delicious low-cal desert, head to Baskin Robbins and check out their lighter options. I recommend either the Rainbow Sherbert (only 160 calories per serving) or the sugar-free Cafe Mocha Yogurt (only 90 calories per serving). Sometimes old-school is just that much more delicious.

Croc of Shoes

Style, Trend Stopper No Comments

OK. Let it be known that Crocs are the most horrid trend on the block right now. I don’t use this word very often, but I truly loathe these rubber catastrophes. It’s not that I am a crazy fashion freak or anything, but honestly, I have searched and searched for a redeeming quality from these Crocs and I truly have yet to find one.

Crocs

According to Wikipedia, these shoes were originally meant to be for boating/outdoor purposes because they are slip-resistant and have a non-marking sole. Well, I have a few initial reactions to this. First, I would like to clarify that ‘outdoor purposes’ does not mean walking down the street or at the beach. If you really bought these things for their true “purpose” then keep them on your boat or up in the mountains please, and away from people.

For my own sanity and for the sake of America’s reputation, this trend must be stopped.

Do your part and do not encourage this irrational behavior. No, not even on babies..because while they make look cute now, think about what it is instilling in these innocent children’s minds. You don’t want to teach our world’s future bad habits at such an early age now do you?

Mammoth Crocs

With Winter rapidly approaching, hopefully this trend will die out with the Autumn leaves for the mostpart. Just beware of the Winter Mammoth Crocs… fur + rubber = bad news bears. Consider yourself warned.

PS - Just when I thought that there was no one in this universe who could possibly hate Crocs as much as I do, I came across this site one fateful night. I was inspired. I guess there is humanity in the world…even though it may be a little crazy. Check it out: http://ihatecrocsblog.blogspot.com/.
